How to Choose People to Network With?

There are a few key things to keep in mind when choosing people to network with:

It’s important to connect with people who are in a position to give your network value. This could be through their connections, their knowledge, or their resources.
Meeting people is possible through networking events, alumni events meetings, industry association meetings, speeches, and seminars. Attend these types of events to meet new people and expand your network.
When meeting someone new, take the time to get to know them and learn about what they do and what they’re interested in. This will help you determine if they’re someone who could be valuable to your network.

You should network with as many people as possible. The human population is somewhere between 100 and 250, so if you take into account extended family members, friends, and their immediate families, you could have a professional network of approximately 150 people.

The optimal size for a network is based on the Dunbar number, which is around 150. This number represents the maximum number of relationships that we can maintain where both parties are willing or able to do favors for each other. Having a network this size allows us to have strong relationships with the people in it, which can be beneficial in many ways.
