The Five Stages of Strategy Development

The Five Stages of Strategy Development are:

  1. Analysis: This is the stage where you analyze your current situation and identify the areas that need improvement. You will also assess your resources and capabilities, and set realistic goals.
  2. Goal-Setting and Strategy Formulation: In this stage, you will set specific goals for your business and develop strategies to achieve them. You will also create a plan for implementing your strategies.
  3. Strategy Implementation: This is the stage where you put your plans into action and start working towards achieving your goals.
  4. Monitoring: In this stage, you monitor your progress to make sure that you are on track to achieve your goals. You will also make adjustments to your plans as needed based on feedback from this monitoring process.
  5. Strategy Monitoring: This is the final stage of the strategy development process where you review your overall performance against your original goals and objectives.

There are a variety of strategic models that organizations can use to develop their plans. The most common models are the SWOT analysis, business model canvas, and resource-based view.

The SWOT analysis is a popular model that looks at an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This model helps organizations identify areas where they have an advantage over their competitors and areas where they need to improve.

The business model canvas is another popular model that helps organizations map out their business strategy. This model includes nine key elements: customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners, and cost structure.

The resource-based view is a less common but still important model that looks at an organization’s internal resources and capabilities. This model helps organizations identify the resources they need to achieve their goals and how to best utilize those resources.
