The Expectation Reset Canvas
Prepare a fair, specific conversation when an agreed standard is not being met. Name the observable gap, understand the context, and reset a workable agreement.
Name the gap
Describe the expected and observed work without diagnosing the person.
Understand the context
Challenge your assumptions and make space for missing context.
Reset the agreement
Make the future standard, support, ownership, and review explicit.

This is a preparation tool, not a disciplinary record
Use your employer's formal HR process where required. Do not use this canvas to diagnose motives, medical conditions, or legal compliance. Seek qualified HR, union, legal, safeguarding, or professional support for high-risk situations.
A fair expectation reset separates the observed gap from assumptions and makes the future agreement testable.
Describe evidence, not character
Use dates, outputs, actions, and agreements. Words such as careless or uncommitted are conclusions and make it harder to understand the real cause.
Check whether the standard was clear
A standard cannot be enforced fairly if ownership, timing, quality, or exceptions were ambiguous. Ask what the other person understood.
Pair accountability with support
Support may include clearer priorities, training, access, feedback, or removing a process obstacle. It does not erase the required standard.
Use the proper formal process
This worksheet is preparation, not an HR or legal record. Follow your employer's policy and get qualified guidance when the situation requires it.
